"Anna, who got lost in Kemi" (1999)
Finnish playwright and director Olli-Pekka Ulkuniemi has written a play and put on the stage a performance «Anna, who got lost in Kemi» special for Olga Alexandrova. Olga became acquainted with this director during a festival in Finland, where she took part with her soloperformance «Three wedding tunes», which has created a great impression on everybody.
Her character Anna came to a small seaport Kemi. At that time the atmosphere in Finland was very hard so as in Russia. Finns who have lost a war with USSA were deprived of a part of their lands. They were very afraid of Soviet army. All emigrants from Russia were pursued and everybody who tried to shelter them and haven’t informed about them were strictly punished.
No wonder, that the main character Anna was put into prison right away. A melodrama ran high in a prison. It is a romantic love story with a young officer, who helped her to run away to Sweden. But the ending of a play hadn’t a single meaning, because Anna couldn’t leave her beloved.
Olga Alexandrova has learned her text in Finnish diligently. According to her words it was rather easy for her to play this role, because she played herself. She sang Udmurt songs on the stage, suffered and loved. Wonderful actors played with her. The director inspired them with his idea.
Kemi is a small city, so ten performances were shown and everybody who wanted had a chance to see it. Outwardly restrained Finns heaped Olga with flowers. The brightest impressions she took away from Finland. At that time she became acquainted with the creative manager of Hameenlinna Town Theatre — Riku Suokas, who has invited her to create a performance, as a director, according N. Gogol «Madman’s diary».
